    About Project

T21 Connect is a non-profit platform created to connect parents worldwide with trusted support organizations in the first hours and days after a new or prenatal Trisomy 21 diagnosis, when families often need help before they know how to look for it.

The project emerged from lived experience. Timo Wienefoet, father of Fritz, who has Trisomy 21, recognized a gap that many support resources miss: the early period after diagnosis often calls for orientation, trust, and a reachable human contact before medical information. This gives T21 Connect a clear human position: a platform created by a parent for parents.

T21 Connect is deliberately focused. It helps parents quickly understand where to turn and access contact details they can use immediately, without becoming a broad resource hub. Its strength lies in making support easier to act on, not harder to navigate. Lumitech joined T21 Connect as a technology partner to translate this need into product logic. The work required more than implementation: the platform had to preserve the project’s tone, support a growing partner network, and make reliable help easier to find without turning the experience into a complicated digital journey.

    Interesting Facts

    • T21 Connect helps families answer the question that often matters first: who can they contact right now? Instead of sending users into broad information browsing, the platform brings them closer to a relevant organization.

    • The number 21 appears throughout the project for a reason. It refers to Trisomy 21, connects to World Down Syndrome Day on March 21, and appears in “What the Down,” T21 Connect’s monthly newsletter, sent on the 21st.

    • The network includes 30+ organizations across Europe, the Americas, Asia, Oceania, and the Middle East, including Emirates Down Syndrome Association in Dubai.

    • T21 Connect gives local organizations a shared place to be found, while the actual support remains local and community-based.

    • Around 150,000 children with Down Syndrome are born every year. Behind that number are families who may need support quickly, in a language they understand. T21 Connect helps make that first contact easier to find.

    Client Request

T21 Connect approached Lumitech with a defined mission and a demanding product challenge: turn a global support idea into a web platform that families could use immediately and partner organizations could join with confidence.

The product had to remove barriers from the support journey. Families needed direct access to organization contacts, language and center filters, verified partner signals, and practical details without registration, long forms, or unnecessary steps.

At the same time, the platform had to serve several audiences without splitting the experience. Parents needed clarity and reassurance. Organizations needed visibility, accurate representation, and trust. Donors, media, and allies needed to understand the mission without distracting from the core family journey.

The client needed an experienced technology partner who could bring structure without making the product feel complex. Lumitech combined reliable engineering, product thinking, and careful UX execution so the platform could stay calm on the surface while handling discovery, verification, partner data, and future expansion.

    Challenges

The Lumitech team had to keep T21 Connect easy to use while the platform handled a complex international network in the background. Each organization had different location details, languages, contact options, working hours, and service models. The team needed to organize this data in a clear and consistent way.

Discovery also required more than a simple map. Location mattered, but language, center type, search intent, and verification status mattered too. Lumitech had to combine map view, list view, keyword search, and filters into one coherent discovery experience.

Verification also had to fit naturally into the discovery process. T21 Connect needed to show reviewed or partner-maintained organizations at the point of comparison, without making users interpret a separate process.

The product also had to work for both families and partners. Families needed quick access to relevant contacts. Organizations needed visibility, accurate profiles, and a way to keep their information useful over time.

As the network grows, T21 Connect needs to support new countries, languages, organizations, verification statuses, and communication channels without complicating the user experience.

    Our Approach

Lumitech approached T21 Connect as a product of reduction. The first step was to define what the interface should remove from the user journey: account creation, long forms, layered navigation, and any need to interpret a large content system before finding help.

This principle guided the product architecture. We built the journey as one continuous flow, so users could move from the first screen to a relevant organization without losing context.

The design work followed the same logic. We kept the visual hierarchy, copy, spacing, and interaction states calm and deliberate, giving users enough guidance to act without making the experience feel instructional or heavy.

On the engineering side, Lumitech built the foundation around structured partner data. Organization profiles, language tags, verification status, contact fields, and map-based discovery were organized to support a growing international network while keeping the public experience clear and lightweight.

This approach allowed T21 Connect to stay focused on its purpose: making help easier to find, evaluate, and reach. The product's strength came as much from what we removed as from what we built.

    Core Features

T21 Connect’s core features all serve the same purpose: helping families identify relevant support quickly and contact the right organization without unnecessary steps.

Support Map with List and Map Views

The first search often starts without a clear destination. Some parents look for the closest organization, while others need to understand what support exists across a country or region. A single view cannot serve both patterns well.

The support map gives families a choice: explore organizations visually or switch to a structured list when they need a clearer way to compare options. Both paths live within the same experience, so parents can move between them as their search develops.

    Language and Center Filters

The closest organization is not always the most useful one, especially if the first conversation cannot happen in a language the family understands. For T21 Connect, filtering is part of access, not convenience.

Language and center filters help parents narrow the network to contacts that feel realistic, relevant, and reachable. Combined with search, they turn an international database into something local enough to act on. This distinction matters because a parent who can communicate is more likely to reach out.

Partner Cards with Direct Contact Details

Each organization card functions as a decision point, not a static profile. Language tags, verification status, location, address, phone number, email, and working hours are displayed together, so families can quickly determine whether an organization fits their situation.

This structure reduces the gap between finding a resource and using it. Parents can assess relevance and contact an organization directly, without registering, submitting a form, or waiting for a platform response.

    Verified and Partner-Maintained Listings

Trust depends on whether the information feels current and usable. If a family sees an active phone number, accurate languages, real working hours, and a verified status, they have more confidence before making the first call or sending the first message.

For organizations, verification has another role. It shows that they are active participants in the network, not passive entries in a directory. This helps families recognize reliable contacts and gives partner organizations a stronger presence within the T21 Connect ecosystem.

    Newsletter Foundation

Beyond the first visit, families need a way to stay connected with the broader community. “What the Down,” T21 Connect’s monthly newsletter sent on the 21st, provides the project with a steady channel for news, community updates, and global developments related to Trisomy 21.

The rhythm is intentional: infrequent enough to respect families’ attention, consistent enough to reinforce belonging. The newsletter extends the platform’s role without overwhelming users with constant communication.

    Technology Architecture

The architecture was planned around reliability, structured data, and low-friction discovery. Each layer has a clear role: interface, map experience, search logic, partner records, verification status, and community communication.

    • Frontend: React, TypeScript, Next.js*

    • Support Map: Interactive map, list, and map views, location-based discovery

    • Search & Filtering: Language filter, center filter, keyword search

    • Partner Directory: Organization profiles, contact details, language tags, external partner links

    • Verification Layer: Verified partner labels, partner-maintained listings

    • Email & Communications: “What the Down” newsletter, subscription flow

    Results

Lumitech turned T21 Connect’s social-impact concept into a live platform with a clear operational purpose: to organize international support into a format families can use without confusion or delay.

Parents now have a single, structured place to find organizations that match their country, language, and immediate needs, rather than relying on scattered search results or disconnected local resources.

For T21 Connect, the platform creates the basis for a growing partner network. It provides organizations with consistent profiles, makes verified partners easier to recognize, and enables the project to expand into new countries, languages, and community initiatives without complicating the core user experience.

    Key outcomes included:

    • A live international platform for families and support organizations

    • A consistent partner data structure for profiles, contacts, languages, and status

    • A unified discovery model for map, list, search, and filters

    • A verification model based on reviewed and partner-maintained organization data

    • A public journey focused on direct contact rather than content navigation

    • A foundation for adding new countries, languages, organizations, and updates

    • A communication channel for community updates through “What the Down.”

    • A scalable product structure that can grow without adding user-facing complexity

    Summary

T21 Connect does not replace human support, explain the diagnosis, or compete with local organizations. It makes the right contact easier to find when families need a starting point.

Lumitech turned that idea into a platform that lets families search, compare, and connect with support organizations through a single, clear structure. The system brings together partner data, language-aware discovery, visible verification, and direct contact in a way that can grow across countries without becoming harder to use.

The result is a product with a precise role: helping families move from searching to reaching out.
