About the Project

Reputable Health is a Toronto-based health and wellness startup driven by a team with deep roots in India and Canada. Their vision is simple but ambitious: help wellness brands validate product claims, not by just talking but by providing scientific evidence collected from real device usage in real life conditions.

The backbone of this vision is their clinical research platform, combining mobile app and web platform with an AI engine in its core. Lumitech was chosen as a partner to rebuild, refactor, and dramatically upgrade the AI aspect after the legacy solution could not keep up with demand.

Interesting Facts

The AI engine analyzes data collected from wearables, like sleep stages, HRV, activity, and body temperature, sometimes exceeding 20,000 data points per user per day.

Prior to Lumitech’s involvement, the platform had already spent nearly three years in production, but its technical base was so fragmented and slow that real users faced constant delays, frequent errors, and poor ratings in app stores.

Lumitech didn’t just “fix bugs”. Instead, we fully rewrote the entire AI engine and adjacent backend, so that analytical features, dashboards, and compliance reports now operate reliably and much faster.

The revamped engine is smart — it turns raw metrics from multiple trackers into dashboards, regulatory-ready reports, and study-building workflows, all processed automatically.

Client Request

Reputable Health asked Lumitech to do more than just “make things run.” They wanted their AI engine to become the foundation for evidence generation: able to process huge sets of real-world data, create automated insights, handle new studies quickly, and deliver compliance-ready output to wellness brands.

In addition, seamless real-time analytics and intuitive study setup were must-haves, along with reliable integrations across Apple Watch, Fitbit, Garmin, Oura Ring, Whoop, and other trackers.

Challenges

While working on the engine, our team encountered several real-world difficulties:

The legacy system was slow and error-prone, often leaving users frustrated and reducing trust.
Documentation and requirements were ambiguous — business logic sometimes changed during the build, leading to frequent course corrections.
The AI engine had to integrate results from dozens of different devices, each with unique data formats and compliance needs.
Speed was paramount. With more clients joining Reputable Health every month, Lumitech delivered the full engine and supporting backend in just two and a half months.
Another challenge was smooth migration: legacy users needed to continue their research with minimal interruption while new AI-powered features rolled out.

Being mindful of the client’s existing users and live studies, Lumitech started from scratch. The first step was a full rewrite. Rather than patching the old code, the team built a new AI engine alongside a robust backend. Prototyping was rapid, sometimes using low-code modules to sketch ideas, but all core features are custom and robust.
